Mercer defeats S.C.-Upstate 74-64

MACON, Ga. (AP)—Daniel Emerson and Calvin Henry each scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Mercer to a 74-64 victory over South Carolina-Upstate on Tuesday night.

Emerson was 6 of 7 from the 3-point line as the Bears (6-2, 1-0 Atlantic Sun) shot 58.8 percent (10 of 17) from behind the arc.

De’Marion Gordon led S.C.-Upstate (0-6, 0-1) with 22 points.

Mercer hit three 3-pointers to open the second half to extend its lead to 50-37 with 16:29 to play.

E.J. Kusnyer scored 12 points and James Florence added 10 points for the Bears, who outrebounded the Spartans 41-32.

Carter Cook scored 12 points and Mezie Uzochukwu added 10 points for S.C.-Upstate.
