Kennesaw State beats S.C.-Upstate 66-64

Kennesaw, Ga. (AP)—Jon-Michael Nickerson hit a jumper with 1 second left to send Kennesaw State to a 66-64 victory against S.C. Upstate in the conference opener for both teams on Monday night.

Spencer Dixon led the Owls (5-2, 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) with 12 points, and Nickerson notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Kelvin McConnell scored 10 points, had a team-high four assists and went 2-for-2 from behind the arc.

Mezie Uzochukwu and Bobby Davis led the Spartans (0-5, 0-1) with 16 points apiece. Nick Schneiders and Carter Cook, who was 3-for-4 from 3-point range, each scored 13.

The teams were close in nearly every way, as both hit 25 field goals, dished out 14 assists and tallied seven steals in the contest. The Owls outrebounded the Spartans 35-30.
