MISSOULA, Mont. (AP)—Senior center John Bryant scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Santa Clara to a 71-68 victory over Montana Sunday.
The game at UM’s Dahlberg Arena was close the entire way and featured 15 lead changes and eight ties.
Santa Clara (3-4) junior guard Perry Petty made a pair of crucial free throws with 11 seconds left to give his team a 71-68 lead.
Montana (2-4) set up a last-second three-point shot to tie the game and force an overtime, but senior forward Jordan’s Hasquet’s attempt hit the back rim and bounced off as time expired.
Johnson led Montana with a career-high 21 points, made 7-of-10 field goal shots and was 6-of-7 from the line.
