Bethune-Cookman beats Texas Southern 68-61

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP)—Bethune-Cookman guard Jarrell Thomas came off the bench to score 19 points Saturday and lead his team to a 68-61 victory over Texas Southern in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Thomas, who sank 4-of-6 3-point shots in the game, scored 11 points in the first half when Bethune-Cookman (2-4) jumped out to a 29-19 lead.

Bethune-Cookman led by as many as 19 points in the second half, 38-19, before Texas Southern (0-6) whittled the deficit to 63-57 with 48 seconds remaining. Then John Holmes and Matthew Miller made two free throws each to stymie the rally.

Deandre Hall led Texas Southern with 13 points and Matthew Miller scored 11. Clifford Reed added 12 for Bethune-Cookman.
