Grambling State edges Morehead State 72-71
CANCUN, Mexico (AP)—Jamal Breaux scored on a tip-in with 3.5 seconds to lift Grambling State to a 72-71 win over Morehead State in the Cancun Challenge on Saturday.
With the first win of the season at stake for both teams, Morehead State (0-6) took a 36-31 lead at halftime. The second half featured five ties and eight lead changes, with Demonte Harper’s jumper giving the Eagles their last lead at 71-70 with 11 seconds on the clock.
Breaux tipped in Ariece Perkins’ missed layup to put the Tigers (1-3) on top for good.
Despite outrebounding the Tigers 44-31, Morehead State committed 16 turnovers—10 in the second half.
Perkins scored a game-high 21 points for Grambling, while Ibrahim Kpaka added 13 and Marcus Coleman chipped in 12.
Leon Buchanan led Morehead State with 14 points, followed by Kenneth Faried with 12 points and Terrance Hill with 11.
