Boise State beats Southern Utah 62-59

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Anthony Thomas scored 16 points, including all four 3-point attempts, as Boise State withstood a last-minute charge by Southern Utah and beat the Thunderbirds 62-59 on Saturday night.

Thomas’ final 3-pointer came as the play clock expired with 1:20 left in the game and put the Broncos up 60-54.

Southern Utah?s Dave Marek responded with five straight points, pulling the Thunderbirds to within one, 60-59, with 8.7 seconds remaining.

Two free throws by Boise State?s Paul Noonan with three seconds left assured the victory as a final shot at the buzzer from mid-court fell short for the Thunderbirds.

Southern Utah (1-4), of the Summit League, was led by Tyler Quinney and Davis Baker with 16 points each, John Clifford with 11 and Marek with 10. Clifford pulled down 13 rebounds.

Jamar Greene added 10 points for Boise State (4-1) of the Western Athletic Conference.
