SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Luke Nevill scored 13 points in limited play to lead Utah over cold-shooting Missouri State 71-58 on Friday night.
Carlon Brown and Tyler Kepkay also scored 13 apiece for the Utes (4-1), who took the lead for good early in the second period and made 10 straight free throws to end the game.
Missouri State (2-2) was led by Spencer Laurie with 18 points and Chris Cook with 11.
The Bears (2-2) struggled to score from the field, shooting 34 percent for the game to Utah’s 55 percent.
Nevill, the Utes’ 7-foot-2 center, played 24 minutes and sat for almost 8 minutes in the second half after being assessed a technical foul with 17:48 left in the game and Missouri State leading 33-31.
But Utah went on a 15-5 run with Nevill on the bench and led 46-36 when he returned with 9:53 remaining. The Bears never got closer than 8 points after that.
The Utes blew an 11-point first-half lead and trailed Missouri State 27-26 at halftime.
