Freshman leads Oakland to 75-70 victory

LAS VEGAS (AP)—Freshman Drew Maynard scored a career-high season-high 21 points, and Oakland, Mich., beat Delaware State 75-70 Friday in the third round of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Keith Benson added 15 points and six rebounds and Blake Cushingberry had 11 points for Oakland (2-4), which plays Southeast Missouri State in the final round Saturday.

Fred Bouie and Donald Johnson scored 14 points each for Delaware State (1-7). Bouie also had five assists and Johnson shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Marcus Neal and Frisco Sandidge added 12 points apiece for the Hornets, who blew a 42-33 halftime lead.

The game was tied at 63 before Oakland outscored Delaware State 12-7 down the stretch.

Delaware State stayed in the game by shooting 11-of-22 from 3-point range while Oakland shot 7-of-15 from beyond the arc.
