Western Michigan defeats Sam Houston St. 65-62

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Derek Drews hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds left Tuesday night to give Western Michigan a 65-62 win over Sam Houston State.

Ashton Mitchell sank two free throws for Sam Houston State to tie the game at 62-62 with 22 seconds left. He missed a 3-pointer with no time left.

Shawntes Gary led Western Michigan (2-4) with 16 points. Drews added 13 and Martelle McLemore had 11.

Mitchell led Sam Houston State (1-3) with 18 points. DeLuis Ramirez added 15 for the Bearkats.

Western Michigan led 37-27 at the half.
