KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP)—J.R. Blount scored a game-high 17 points, including three in the final 32 seconds, leading Loyola of Chicago to a 54-51 victory Saturday over Western Michigan.
Blount, who has led the Ramblers (2-2) in scoring in three of their four games, drove the lane for a layup and go-ahead basket with 32 seconds left and added a free throw with 10 seconds left. Blount also had a game-high five assists.
David Kool led Western Michigan (1-4) with 16 points. The Broncos missed more than 70 percent of their shots, making 15-of-51 shots, including 4-of-17 from 3-point range.
Shawntes Gary (12 points) had a chance to send the game into overtime, but missed a 3-pointer from the left side of the court as the game-ended buzzer sounded.
Andy Polka grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Loyola, which outrebounded Western Michigan, 38-33. The loss broke Western Michigan’s 11-game, home-court win streak.
