RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—Courtney Fells scored 23 points to lead North Carolina State past High Point 69-56 on Saturday night.
Ben McCauley added 12 points for the Wolfpack (2-0), who won their 21st consecutive non-conference home game against in-state competition.
Nick Barbour led High Point (1-2) with 22 points. Melvin Crowder scored 12 points, and Eugene Harris added 10 points for the Panthers.
High Point scored on eight of nine possessions during one span to take its biggest lead at 21-17 with nine minutes remaining in the first half, but N.C. State answered with a 12-0 run. The Wolfpack never trailed after McCauley made a layup for a 22-21 lead with 8:20 left in the half.
High Point cut N.C. State’s lead to 47-41 midway through the second half, but Fells scored 12 points as part of an 18-3 spurt as the Wolfpack put away the game.
