Niagara beats Appalachian State 95-80
LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP)—Bilal Benn and Tyrone Lewis each scored 22 points as Niagara beat Appalachian State 95-80 in a non-conference basketball game Saturday.
Benn added 11 rebounds for Niagara (2-1), which scored 52 points in the second half. Rob Garrison added 19, and Kamau Gordon scored 12, and Anthony Nelson added 10 points for Niagara.
Kellen Brand and Donald Sims scored 20 points apiece for Appalachian (1-2). Ryann Abraham added 11 points, while Josh Hunter snared 10 rebounds.
The Mountaineers opened the game with a 13-3 run, capped by Abraham?s jumper at 16:30. After a Lewis dunk tied the game, 43-43, with 42 seconds to play in the half, Sims beat the halftime buzzer with a three-pointer to give Appalachian State a 46-43 lead.
Nelson gave Niagara its first lead, 50-48, with two free throws at 18:17. The teams traded the lead until Benson Egemonye scored inside to make it 60-59 at 11:12. Egemonye?s basket started a 9-0 Niagara run, capped when Benn scored inside for a 67-59 lead at 9:14.
