MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Ivan Aska scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures to help Murray State beat Western Kentucky 89-61 on Saturday night.
The Racers (2-1) jumped out to a 13-4 lead and never trailed. Murray State shot 56.4 percent from the field (31 of 55) and 95.7 percent from the free-throw line (22 of 23) to hold off the Hilltoppers (1-2).
Western Kentucky shot 39.6 percent from the field (21 of 53) and only 60.9 percent from the charity stripe (14 of 23).
The Racers also outrebounded the Hilltoppers 38-22.
Isacc Miles added 15 points for Murray State, while Jewuan Long and Danero Thomas each scored 12 and Jeffrey McClain chipped in with 11.
A.J. Slaughter led the Hilltoppers with 15 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
