DePaul beats Illinois-Chicago 67-63
CHICAGO (AP)—Freshman Jeremiah Kelly hit a 3 to break a 59-all tie with 2:02 left and Will Walker scored 17 points as DePaul held on to defeat Illinois-Chicago 67-63 on Saturday.
Josh Mayo had 23 points for Illinois-Chicago and Scott Vandermeer had 12 points and five blocked shots.
Mac Koshwal finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds for DePaul (2-0). Freshman Devin Hill hit back-to-back 3s to give DePaul a 34-33 lead at the half.
Trailing by 13, Illinois-Chicago (1-2) came back by outscoring DePaul 15-2. Mayo scored seven of the 15, including a jumper to tie the score at 59 with 2:26 left.
Kelly gave DePaul the lead for good with a 3 and Dar Tucker added another 3 to make it 65-61.
Tori Boyd’s two free throws cut DePaul’s lead to 65-63. Then Walker missed the front end of a 1-in-1. Mayo missed a 3 to give the Flames a potential lead with 4 seconds left.
