Northwestern State edges Centenary 69-66
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)—Michael McConathy scored 17 points and Dominic Knight added 15 off the bench to help Northwestern State hold off Centenary 69-66 on Friday in the LSU Classic.
The Demons (2-1) held a 36-26 halftime lead, but the Gents (1-3) went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead 52-49 with 8:02 left. Northwestern State regained the lead at 53-52 on a Keithan Hancock 3-pointer with 6:12 on the clock.
Centenary stayed close despite shooting 37.5 percent (21 of 56) and tied the score at 57 with 3:40 left.
The Demons built a six-point margin, then squandered it in the final minute. After Chase Adams hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 67-66 with four-seconds left, Charles Clark’s lay-up clinched the win for Northwestern State.
Centenary’s Adams led all scorers with 20 points and Gary Redus II added 17 for the Gents.
