Lamar knocks off Louisiana-Lafayette 78-68
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP)—Kenny Dawkins scored 29 points to lift Lamar to a 78-68 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday night.
Dawkins fueled Lamar’s second-half run by scoring 14 points in the final 7:15 as the Cardinals (2-0) outscored the Ragin’ Cajuns 23-11 to finish the game. His two free throws with 7:15 remaining gave Lamar a 57-55 lead that it wouldn’t relinquish.
Dawkins was 12 of 12 from the free throw line.
Brandon McThay added 16 points, Jay Brown scored 13 points and Tristan Worrell had 12 points for Lamar.
Travis Bureau led Louisiana-Lafayette (0-2) with 24 points, and Tyren Johnson had 12 points and 10 rebounds. La’Ryan Gary added 12 points, and Jeremy Barr and Ryan McCoy added 10 points each for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
