Middle Tennessee beats Houston Baptist 80-63

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Nigel Johnson scored 19 points to help lead Middle Tennessee to an 80-63 win against Houston Baptist on Sunday.

Nigel Johnson scored 17 points and Calvin O’Neil chipped in 10 for the Blue Raiders (2-0), who hosts 14th-ranked Tennessee in its next game on Friday night. O’Neil and Kevin Kanaskie each grabbed 7 rebounds, tying for the team lead.

Gordon Watt scored 18 points and Baron Sauls chipped in 12 for the Huskies (0-2), who shot 34.5 percent from the field (20 of 58) in the loss. The Blue Raiders shot 48.3 percent (29 of 60).

The Blue Raiders lost the turnover battle 21-18, but out rebounded the Huskies 48-30 en route to victory.
