Rutgers beats Delaware 85-77
NEWARK, Del. (AP)—Hamady Ndiaye scored a career-high 26 points to lead four Rutgers players in double figures as the Scarlet Knights defeated Delaware 85-77 on Sunday.
Delaware (0-1) held a 51-50 lead when Marc Egerson sank a three-pointer with 13:06 remaining in the game, but the Scarlet Knights (2-0) scored the next 12 points and never led by fewer than three points the rest of the game.
Leading 74-69, Rutgers hit 11 of 14 free throws in the final 1:16 to hold off Delaware.
Mike Rosario scored 17 points, Corey Chandler chipped in 13 and Gregory Echenique had 10 as the Scarlet Knights shot 60.4 percent (29 of 48) from the floor.
The Hens were led by Egerson and Alphonso Dawson, who each scored a career-high 28 points. The two combined to shoot 8 of 16 from 3-point range. Egerson also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
