Oakwood edges Alabama A&M 86-85

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Ronald Bushner hit two free throws with 25 seconds left in the game to lift Oakwood to an 86-85 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday.

Trant Simpson, who led Alabama A&M with 23 points, missed two shots in the final five seconds in the Bulldogs’ season opener.

Alabama A&M built an 85-82 lead on Jonathan Belt’s layup with 1:05 remaining. But Landon Bertram, who led the Ambassadors (4-2) with 20 points, hit two free throws to cut the lead to 85-84 with 30 seconds remaining.

Bushner had a steal and was fouled by Simpson, sending him to the line.

Brandon Broome added 18 points, Marcus Fitts had 12 and Bushner finished with 10 points for Oakwood, which shot 50 percent from the field (16 of 32).

Desmond Jackson added 19 points and Casey Cantey had 11 points for Alabama A&M.
