Petty leads MVSU to 79-73 win over Grambling St.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Eric Petty had 19 points, including 10 of 12 free throws, to lead Mississippi Valley State to a 79-73 win over Grambling State on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament in Birmingham.
The Delta Devils will face the winner of Thursday’s game between Alabama A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Carl Lucas and Larry Cox added 17 points apiece for MVSU. Dwayne Harmason added 13 more points and Stanford Speech chipped in with 11 more. Cox also had 9 rebounds and Lucas snagged eight more as the Devils outrebounded the Tigers 36-25.
Grambling State was led by Anthony Williams, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Andre’ Ratliff added 17 more points for the Tigers.
