Brooks’ 22 leads Sacred Heart to 84-71 tournament win

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Brice Brooks had 22 points and Drew Shubik scored 15 to lead Sacred Heart to an 84-71 win over Central Connecticut in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference tournament Thursday night.

Shubik also scored his 1,000th career point in the second half for the Pioneers, (17-13, 14-5). Sacred Heart avoided getting eliminated in the playoffs by the Blue Devils (15-15, 10-9) for the third consecutive year.

The Pioneers used a 9-0 run in the opening minutes to build a 14-4 lead. Shubik then helped fuel a 16-4 run and the Pioneers led 39-24 at the break. Sacred Heart led by as many as 23 in the second period.

Tristan Blackwood led Central Connecticut with 15 points and Joe Seymore had 12.
