Carter’s tip-in leads SC State to 73-71 win over Winston-Salem
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP)—Julias Carter tipped in a missed jumper with five seconds to go to give South Carolina State the lead for good as the Bulldogs beat Winston-Salem State 73-71 on Thursday night.
Isiah Tucker had a chance to put the Rams (12-18) back ahead, but missed two free throws with three seconds left.
Jason Johnson made one of his two free throws with one second left for the final margin for the Bulldogs (12-19).
South Carolina State trailed by 11 early in the second half, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Jessie Burton and Thomas Bookman tied the game at 45 with just over 14 minutes left
The Bulldogs went ahead 57-53 with just under nine minutes to go, but the Rams tied it less than a minute later. Neither team would lead by more than three the rest of the way.
Jamal Durham scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Winston-Salem, while Brain Fisher and Darrell Wonge each added 15 points.
Jason Flagler led South Carolina State with 18 points, while Johnson added 16 points and 17 rebounds.
