Fields scores 15 as Austin Peay beats E. Kentucky 76-51
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Ernest Fields scored 15 points and Austin Peay beat Eastern Kentucky 76-51 Tuesday night in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Austin Peay (22-10, 17-4 OVC) won its ninth game out of its last 10 with a balanced scoring attack.
Eastern Kentucky (14-16, 10-11) had upset the Governors a year ago in the OVC tourney championship game.
Derek Wright and Kyle Duncan added 13 points each for the Governors, who have reached the OVC semifinals 10 of the last 13 years. Wes Channels added 12 and Fernandez Lockett 10.
Adam Leonard led Eastern Kentucky with 17 points and was the only Colonel in double figures.
Austin Peay made 16-of-19 free throws to 5-of-6 for the Colonels.
Austin Peay led 39-27 at halftime and enjoyed comfortable leads throughout the second half.
The Governors advance to the tourney semifinals Friday in Nashville.
