Bright’s double-double leads Sam Houston past Texas State, 80-74

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Ryan Bright’s 17 points and 10 rebounds led Sam Houston State in an 80-74 comeback win over Texas State on Saturday night.

Jeremy Thomas scored 19 points to lead the Bearkats (21-6, 8-6 Southland). Ashton Mitchell scored 13 and Reggie Rawlins added 10 points.

The Bobcats (12-16, 5-10) were led by Brandon Bush’s 14 points and eight rebounds. He was the only player in double figures for Texas State.

Texas State rode 61 percent shooting in the first half to a 45-39 halftime lead, but Sam Houston State opened the second half with an 18-3 run. The lead changed four times in the second half, with the Bearkats going ahead for good on a John Gardiner free throw with 3:35 to play.
