Cutley’s double-double leads Fullerton over Long Beach State, 85-51
FULLERTON, Calif. (AP)—Scott Cutley had season highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead Cal State Fullerton’s 85-51 rout of Long Beach State on Saturday night.
Josh Akognon added 19 points, 18 in the second half, and Ray Reed had 13 points and nine assists for the Titans (19-8, 11-4 Big West), who have won nine of 11.
Donovan Morris, the conference’s leading scorer, also had 25 points for the 49ers (6-22, 3-11), who are one defeat from tying the school record for most losses in one season. Arturas Lazdauskas added eight points and nine rebounds.
Fullerton trailed 15-8 before Cutley scored six points during a 15-0 surge that put the Titans ahead 23-15 with six minutes left in the first half.
Long Beach closed to within 27-26 but failed to score a basket in the final 3:12 of the first half and the opening 4:09 of the second half.
The Titans used a 7-2 spurt to take a 34-28 halftime lead, then began the second half with another 15-0 spree to build a 49-28 advantage with 16:11 to play. Akognon led the second-half run with seven points.
The 49ers committed a season-high 30 turnovers, which Fullerton used to score 40 points.
