Morgan State beats Delaware State 39-36
DOVER, Del. (AP)—Marquise Kately had 9 points to help Morgan State to a 39-36 victory over Delaware State on Saturday.
Coly Boubacar grabbed 10 rebounds and made 3 points for Morgan State (19-9, 13-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Frisco Sandidge led Delaware State (12-15, 9-6) with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Both teams were without their leading scorers. Delaware State’s Roy Bright didn’t play because of a tooth ache and Morgan State’s Jamar Smith sat out because of an ankle injury.
A jumper by Delaware State’s Donald Johnson with 8:04 left in the game tied it up at 27, but the Bears took the lead for good on a lay-up by Kately at the seven minute mark.
A 3-point play by Jerrell Green gave Morgan State a 6-point lead 35-29 with 3:20 left, but the Hornets put together a 7-3 surge cutting the lead to 36-38 on a jumper by Sandidge with 42 seconds left.
Boubacar scored for the Bears from the free throw line and Sandidge missed a 3-pointer that would have sent the game into overtime at the buzzer.
