Merritt leads South Alabama to 81-61 win over New orleans

MOBILE, Ala. (AP)—Daon Merritt had 22 points and Demetric Bennett added 20 more to lead South Alabama to an easy 81-61 win over New Orleans Thursday.

Merritt’s game high scoring followed his engagement during pregame Senior Day ceremonies, and the Jaguars (24-5, 15-2 Sun Belt Conference) moved to within one win of claiming the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament.

Bennett also had 11 rebounds. Brandon Davis and Domonic Tilford chipped in with 11 points apiece.

Bo McCalebb led the Privateers (18-11, 8-9 SBC) with 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting, and Kyndall Dykes had 15. New Orleans shot just 29 percent in the first half and 36 percent overall.

The Jaguars improved to 16-0 at home.
