Nicholls State routs Northwestern State in Southland action

THIBODAUX, La. (AP)—Ryan Bathie scored 25, hitting seven 3-pointers, to lead Nicholls State to an 82-60 win over Northwestern State in Southland Conference action on Thursday.

Northwestern State (12-16, 8-6) scored seven early long-range shots, dashing two 12-point leads of 22-10 and 25-13, but stalled offensively as the Colonels charged back. Nicholls State (8-20, 3-10) outscored the Demons 33-8 over the last 11 minutes of the first half to go ahead 46-33 at the break.

The Colonels, ending a six-year homecourt losing streak to Northwestern State, never let the visitors get any closer, scoring the first four points of the second half and leading by as much as 26.

Adonis Gray scored 18 for the Colonels, while Anatoly Bose had 16 and Dominic Friend and Gil Verner each had 11.

Northwestern’s top scorer, Trey Gilder, had a career-low two points, getting off only five shots in 17 minutes as his streak of 19 straight double-figure scoring games ended. Damon Jones and Keithan Hanccock each added 11 for the Demons while Devin White had 10.
