Morehead State overcomes 22 point deficit, beats Tennessee State
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP)—Morehead State overcame a 22-point second half deficit and beat Tennessee State 84-76 Thursday night at Johnson Arena.
Andrae Belton’s 3-point field goal with 19:26 remaining put Tennessee State ahead 51-29. Morehead State chipped away and a jumper by Nikola Stojakovic with 3:18 left put the Eagles up 69-68. After that, Morehead State (15-13, 12-7 Ohio Valley Conference) would not relinquish the lead.
Over the final 3:03, Morehead State connected on 13 of 16 from the free throw line. For the second half, MSU outscored TSU 55-28. Kenneth Faried and Leon Buchanan each scored 23 points to top Morehead State. Buchanan also added 10 rebounds. Maze Stallworth finished with 12 points.
Gerald Robinson led the Tigers (12-16, 9-10) with 24 points. Bruce Price had 15 and LaDarious Weaver finished with 11.
Tennessee State hit 29 of 53 from the field (54.7 percent) while Morehead State was 26 of 59 (44.1 percent). TSU hit 12 of 21 from 3-point range, including 10 of 12 in the first half.
Morehead State out rebounded Tennessee State 37-26.
