Anderson’s OT buzzer beater gives Quinnipiac 76-73 win
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP)—DeMario Anderson hit a midcourt 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to give Quinnipiac a 76-73 win over his old team and instate rival Central Connecticut on Thursday.
After Central’s Ken Horton made a 3 with 2.5 seconds left to tie the game, Quinnipiac called a timeout. Anderson took the ensuing inbounds pass along the right sideline and heaved it from more than 40 feet out. It touched but nothing but net and started a wild celebration in front of the Bobcat bench.
Anderson, who transferred from Central after the 2004-05 season, finished with a game-high 28 points. Lou Brookins added 13 points for Quinnipiac (15-13, 11-6 Northeast Conference).
Horton scored 25 points for Central (13-15, 9-8), including a putback with 40 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. Joe Seymore added 20 points for the Blue Devils.
The game was tied at 36 at the break and neither team led by more than four in the second half.
