Ramirez’s double-double leads Sam Houston St. over UTA, 79-65

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Accurate free-throw shooting and a double-double from DeLuis Ramirez led Sam Houston State to a 79-65 road win over Texas-Arlington on Wednesday.

Ramirez finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with 14 points from Ryan Bright and 11 points from Shamir McDaniel.

The Bearkats (20-6, 8-5 Southland) held a 44-34 rebounding edge over the Mavericks (17-10, 6-8).

Sam Houston State made 28-of-31 free throws, shooting 90 percent from the line overall and making all 11 free throws in the first half. Ramirez made 7-of-8 from the line, while Reggie Rawlins was perfect in five attempts. UTA was 17-of-32 from the line, or 53 percent.

Anthony Vereen scored 17 points for Texas-Arlington. Jermaine Griffin scored 13 points and Rod Epps added 10. Tommy Moffitt grabbed 10 rebounds.
