Green’s 19 points lead La Salle to 83-78 victory over Fordham
NEW YORK (AP)—Rodney Green scored 19 points and La Salle closed the game on a 12-3 run for an 83-78 victory over Fordham on Wednesday night, the Explorers’ fifth straight win.
Darnell Harris scored all six of his points in the final 4:15 for La Salle (14-13, 8-5 Atlantic 10). His jumper brought the Explorers within 75-73 with 3:22 left and started the game-closing burst that saw Fordham miss three of four shots and turn the ball over three times.
Green’s two free throws with 2:51 left tied the game and Harris’ 3-pointer— his only one of the game but team-leading 104th of the season—gave the Explorers the lead for good. They were ahead 83-75 when Brenton Butler of Fordham hit a 3 with 1.2 seconds to go.
Bryant Dunston had 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams (11-14, 5-8), who had won three of four. It was the sixth straight game the senior forward recorded a double-double and the 14th in the last 15. Dunston, 12th in the conference in scoring with a 15.4 average and tops in rebounding at 9.9 per game, was 10-for-17 from the field and blocked three shots.
Ruben Guillandeaux had 15 points for the Explorers, while Jerrell Williams added 14 and Kimmani Barrett had 10. Green made both of his 3-point attempts and La Salle finished 5-for-10 from beyond the arc and shot 56.3 percent overall (27-for-48).
Butler finished with 16 points for Fordham, while Marcus Stout added 14 and Sebastian Greene had 12. The Rams shot 46.6 percent overall (27-for-58) but were 7-for-24 from 3-point range.
