UAPB forces OT with halfcourt shot, but loses to Texas Southern
PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP)—Sollie Norwood scored 18 points, and Texas Southern edged Arkansas-Pine Bluff 77-76 on Monday night after UAPB’s Marcelle Goins sent the game to overtime with a shot from near halfcourt.
Goins’ shot tied the game at 68, but at the end of regulation, the celebrating home fans went a bit too far. Some fans ran onto the court, and cups and pens were thrown through the air. UAPB (12-14, 8-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) was given a technical foul, and Matthew Miller made both free throws to gave Texas Southern a 70-68 advantage at the start of overtime.
The Golden Lions trailed 77-76 with 16 seconds left in overtime, and both Goins and Larry Williams missed on UAPB’s possession.
Williams led UAPB with 21 points. David Burrell matched Norwood with 18 for Texas Southern (7-20, 6-8).
