Williams free throws lift Towson over High Point 73-72
TOWSON, Md. (AP)—C.C. Williams made a pair of free throws with 3.7 seconds left as Towson beat High Point 73-72 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools on Saturday.
Williams finished with 19 points, Jonathan Pease added 16 and Junior Hairston scored 15 for Towson (11-16), which broke the school record for three-pointers in a season with 192. High Point (14-13) did not take the lead until 13:28 left in the BracketBusters game, and led by seven with four minutes left.
Hairston made a 3-pointer for Towson that cut High Point’s lead to 72-71 with 47.8 seconds left. The Panthers turned the ball over with five seconds left and fouled Williams as he was driving to the basket for the potential game-winner.
Arizona Reid scored 23 points, Cruz Daniels and Eugene Harris each had 18, and Mike Jefferson finished with 10 for High Point.
