UTSA hangs on for OT win over Texas State, 103-96
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP)—Devin Gibson scored 27 points, including five in overtime, to lead Texas-San Antonio to a 103-96 win in a shootout with Texas State.
The Roadrunners (12-13, 6-6 Southland) went 6-for-6 from the line in the final 28 seconds to secure the victory.
Brandon Bush of Texas State hit two free throws with a second left in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 81. Bush scored 18 points and hit all 10 of his free throws.
Gibson went 7-of-16 from the field and hit 12 of 14 free throws. He also had five steals, four assists and four rebounds in 41 minutes.
Melvin Smith scored 19 points and Antoine Dade had 14 for the Roadrunners. JohnMark Ludwick and Isaiah Allen scored 13 apiece.
Brent Holder scored 18 points for Texas State (12-14, 5-8). Brent Benson added 16 points, and Ryan White had 12.
Texas State had 27 turnovers to Texas-San Antonio’s 16, but the Roadrunners outscored the Bobcats 51-36 in the paint.
