Akognon’s 26 leads Fullerton to 85-69 win over Portland State
FULLERTON, Calif. (AP)—Josh Akognon scored 26 points and Frank Robinson had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Cal State Fullerton to an 85-69 victory over Portland State on Saturday night
Ray Reed added 14 points and five assists for the Titans (18-7), who have won four straight games and eight of nine.
Deonte Huff scored 17 points for the Vikings (18-9), whose nine-game winning streak ended. Andre Murray added 12 points and Tyrell Mara had 11 points.
The game was part of ESPN’s Bracket Buster weekend.
Portland State’s Scott Morrison needs one more game to tie the school’s career record after playing in his 113th game in four seasons. Morrison had eight rebounds, four points and three blocks.
The Vikings held a 13-7 lead when Fullerton used a 21-5 surge to move ahead 28-18 with 8:34 left in the first half. Akognon and Reed each scored seven points during the run.
The Titans extended their lead to 22 points early in the second half before Portland State narrowed the deficit to 75-64 with 4:54 to play. But Reed scored four points during a 6-0 spurt that gave Fullerton an 81-64 lead with 3:35 left.
