Jackson scores 31 in Alcorn State’s 73-69 win over Hornets
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)—Troy Jackson had 31 points and six assists and James Kendrick hit two free throws with 5 seconds left, giving Alcorn State a 73-69 win over Alabama State Saturday night.
Brandon Brooks hit a layup to cut Alcorn State’s lead to two points with 20 seconds left. Jumane Reed and Jackson each made 1-of-2 from the line and Alabama State’s Brandon Gordon missed a potential tying 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Kendrick then went to the line to clinch the win for Alcorn State (5-21, 4-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference), which made 22 of 27 foul shots. Jackson made 11-of-14 from the line.
Anthony Ford and Kendrick each scored 15 for the Braves.
Andrew Hayles led Alabama State (14-8, 10-2) with 18 points while Brooks and Gordon both had 12. Roland Fitch added 11 points for the Hornets.
The Hornets remained in it until the final seconds despite going just 2-of-17 from 3-point range and making just 15 of 25 free throw attempts.
