Kindred scores 18, leads Lenoir-Rhyne past NC Central
DURHAM, N.C. (AP)—Josh Kindred scored 18 points as Lenoir-Rhyne ran its winning streak to 13 games with an 81-69 victory over North Carolina Central Wednesday, handing the Eagles their second loss in as many nights.
A free throw by Bryan Ayala with 5:43 left in the first half helped N.C. Central close a 5-point deficit down to 25-23, but the Bears (20-3) launched a 15-2 run in which Kindred scored eight points to build a 40-25 advantage at the break. The Eagles (3-25) never threatened after that.
For the second straight night, one half of poor shooting doomed N.C. Central. The Eagles, who suffered with poor shooting in a loss to Utah Valley State, were 9-for-29 in the opening 20 minutes, while Lenoir-Rhyne was shooting at a 64 percent clip on a 16-of-25 effort.
Reggie Bratton scored 16 for Lenoir-Rhyne, while Josh Rudder scored 15 and Marcus Hodges had 11.
Charles Futrell led N.C. Central with 20 points.
