Bison end 3-game losing streak with OT win over Leopards
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP)—Stephen Tyree scored on a driving layup with 2.9 seconds left in overtime and Bucknell snapped a three-game losing streak with a 77-75 win over Lafayette on Wednesday night.
Bison freshman Darryl Shazier forced overtime with a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 67. The Leopards had two shots in the final seconds, but both jumpers were off the mark.
Andrew Brown led the Leopards with 17 points
Lafayette (14-12 overall, 5-6 Patriot League) took a 75-73 lead on two free throws by Bilal Abdullah with 1:01 left in overtime.
Bucknell (11-15, 6-6) tied it on two free throws by John Griffin with 52 seconds remaining.
After the Leopards were called for a shot-clock violation with 15 seconds showing, the Bison called timeout to set up the final play for Tyree, who got a step on Abdullah while driving the right side of the lane. Abdullah fell back and Tyree took advantage by laying it over the rim.
Lafayette got the ball to half court and called a time-out. Matt Betley’s inbound pass to Abdullah didn’t connect and time expired.
The Bison led by 12 points, 33-21, at halftime and 42-30 at the 14:35 mark of the second half before the Leopards put together a 24-6 run to take a 54-48 lead on a free throw by Michael Gruner at the 7:38 mark.
