Han’s basket in second OT lifts Fairfield over Marist, 87-85
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Jonathan Han drove the lane and scored the game-winning basket with 11.7 left in double overtime to lift Fairfield over Marist 87-85 Monday.
Han, who played all 50 minutes, finished with 21 points and senior Marty O’Sullivan added a career-high 23 and 10 rebounds for the Stags (12-14, 10-6 MAAC), who won their fifth straight contest.
Spongy Benjamin led Marist (15-12, 9-7) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jay Gavin added 15 points and David Devezin had 14.
Han’s basket put Fairfield up 86-85. Sophomore Anthony Johnson made 1-of-2 foul shots with less than 1 second left to give the Stags the 2-pont lead, and the Red Foxes were unable to convert a final shot by Ryan Schneider at the buzzer.
The Stags used an 11-3 run over the final five minutes of regulation to force overtime. Han drove the right side of the lane and put one off the glass to tie the game 72-72 with 2.6 seconds left.
Johnson, who had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Fairfield, made two foul shots with 19.7 seconds left in the first OT to tie things at 80 and force a second session.
O’Sullivan and Han each scored 12 points in the first half to help the Stags build a 41-35 lead.
Marist came back in the second half, outscoring Fairfield 25-9 over an 11-minute stretch to take a 60-54 lead with 8:20 left in regulation.
