Hopkins scores 26 points for Lamar in 101-90 win over Texas State
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP)—Darren Hopkins scored 26 points and Kenny Dawkins had 23 for Lamar, which held off Texas State 101-90 on Saturday.
The Bobcats staged a furious comeback after trailing 51-33 at the half. Both teams finished with six scorers in double digits.
Jay Brown added 14 points, Todd Currye scored 13, Justin Nabors had 11 and Lamar Sanders chipped in 10 for the Cardinals (15-8, 9-1 Southland).
Matt Fullenwider had 18 points to lead Texas State. Brandon Bush had 17 and Brent Holder scored 16. Brent Benson and Ryan White had 11 points apiece for the Bobcats (11-12, 4-6), and Brandon Thomas scored 10.
Texas State outrebounded Lamar 46-29. However, the Cardinals shot nearly 56 percent from the field, to nearly 43 percent for the Bobcats.
