Hooper’s 23 points lead La.-Monroe over Denver, 53-48
MONROE, La. (AP)—Tony Hooper had 23 points, including all three of his 3-point attempts, to lead Louisiana-Monroe over Denver on Saturday, 53-48.
The lead changed four times, with four ties, before ULM (10-16, 4-10 Sun Belt) went on a 10-2 run in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 27-21 halftime lead over Denver (11-14, 7-7).
The Warhawks pushed their lead to 33-23, but freshman Rob Lewis scored eight straight to start a 15-0 run that put Denver ahead 38-33 with just over eight minutes left.
Hooper had eight points in ULM’s 13-1 response, and Louisiana-Monroe stayed ahead the rest of the way. The Pioneers pulled to within three on a jumper by Nate Rohnert with 58 seconds left, but Hooper and Jonas Brown, who finished with 12 points, converted on five free throws in the final minute.
Lewis led Denver with 21 points and nine rebounds; Nate Rohnert added 13 points.
