Wright leads Austin Peay in 80-76 win over Tenn. Tech
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Derek Wright’s 18 points helped Austin Peay to an 80-76 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
Wright’s seven assists also gave him a news school single season record, with 75.
Tennessee Tech (12-17, 9-10 Ohio Valley Conference) trailed the entire first half, which closed with Austin Peay up by six and a score of 47-41.
Tech finally grabbed the lead when a free throw by Daniel Northern with 8:21 to go in the second made the score 66-65. But Austin Peay (18-9, 14-3 OVC) went ahead again three minutes later when a 3-pointer by Todd Babington made it 70-68. The Governors, who shot 48 percent to Tech’s 45, never trailed again.
Drake Reed added 15 for Austin Peay and Kyle Duncan added another 14.
Will Barnes led Tech with 18 points while Amadi McKenzie had 14, Northern had 13 plus 10 rebounds. Frank Davis added 12 and Anthony Fisher added 11.
With the win, Austin Peay clinches at least a tie for the OVC regular season championship.
