Byrne leads E. Illinois to 90-70 win over SE Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP)—Jake Byrne scored 18 points to lead Eastern Illinois to a 90-70 win against Southeast Missouri on Thursday night.

Bobby Catchings scored 17 for the Panthers (5-20, 4-13 Ohio Valley), Julio Anthony and Gino Myers-Kyles each scored 15 and Tyler Laser added 12.

Kenard Moore scored 18 points off six 3-pointers to lead Southeast Missouri (12-15, 7-10), and Roderick Pearson scored 10.

Eastern Illinois, which came into the game shooting a league-worst 43 percent from the field, hit 61.5 percent (32-of-52), including 57.1 percent from long range.

The Panthers outrebounded Southeast Missouri 38-29, including a 26-11 advantage on the defensive boards, and outscored the Redhawks 34-18 in the paint.

Southeast Missouri has lost 10 of its last 11 games after starting the season at 6-0 in the conference.
