Florence scores 29, Mercer overcomes 16-point deficit in overtime win
MACON, Ga. (AP)—James Florence scored 29 points and Mercer overcame a 16-point second half deficit to beat Florida Gulf Coast 76-74 in overtime on Thursday night.
The Eagles (5-7, 9-17 Atlantic Sun Conference) had a 53-37 lead with 11:54 left in regulation on a jumper by Casey Wohlleb, who led them with 24 points.
But the Bears outscored Florida Gulf Coast 28-14 over the next 10 minutes, capping the surge on Florence’s jumper. Florence made a layup with 24 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Florence scored the first seven points to give Mercer a 72-67 lead with 3:59 remaining. The Eagles pulled within one point with 7 seconds left, but couldn’t regain the lead.
Shaddean Aaron scored 13 points for the Bears. Calvin Henry had 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots.
Landon Adler and Terike Barrowes each scored 11 points for Florida Gulf Coast.
