Clifford’s 17 points spur Holy Cross win over Army
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP)—Tim Clifford scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots as Holy Cross beat Army 64-53 at Christl Arena Thursday night in Patriot League play.
Alex Vander Baan added 13 points and Eric Meister had 11 for Holy Cross (13-10, 4-6 PL).
Jarell Brown scored 21 points for Army (11-12, 4-5), and Josh Miller added 13.
The score stayed close early in the game and the Crusaders were up 9-8 with 13:28 left in the first half when they took off on a 21-4 run over the next 11 minutes for a 30-12 lead.
The Black Knights, held scoreless for eight minutes, came back to close out the half with an 11-2 spurt that left the Crusaders with a 32-23 halftime lead.
Army got as close as four points, 47-43, with 6:58 remaining in the game. The Crusaders outscored Army 9-4 over the next four minutes to push their lead to 56-47, then hit all eight of their foul shots in the final three minutes to clinch the win.
Holy Cross shot 55.3 percent from the field, 21-of-38, and hit 80.8 percent of their free throws (21-of-26).
