Kent’s free throws give Toledo 54-52 win over Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP)—Tyrone Kent scored on a key layup in the last minute and sank two free throws with eight seconds left to give Toledo a 54-52 comeback win over Ohio on Wednesday night.
Toledo (8-15, 5-6 Mid-American) trailed for most of the game and was behind by 12 points early in the second half. But the Rockets outrebounded Ohio (16-8, 7-4) 19-12 in the final period and made 13 of 19 free throws—enough to form the backbone of the comeback.
With 41 seconds remaining, and the Bobcats ahead 52-48, Kent made his layup to get Toledo within two. Jonathan Amos’ jumper then tied it at 52 with 26 seconds remaining.
Amos then stole the ball from Ohio’s Bubba Walther on the other end, and Kent made both his free throws after he was fouled.
Walther then missed a 3-point attempt with four seconds remaining.
Kent and Jerrah Young each scored 13 points, Amos had 11 and Ridley Johnson scored 10 for Toledo. Walther scored 15 points for Ohio.
