McNeese State snaps losing streak, gets win over Texas State
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP)—McNeese State got a double-double from forward John Pichon as the Cowboys snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Texas State 81-77 in a Southland Conference game on Wednesday.
Pichon scored a team high 26 points and pulled 10 rebounds as the Cowboys (9-12, 3-6) got a solid contribution from their entire lineup. Rorey Lawrence chipped in with 12 points, while Jarvis Bradley added 11 and Kleon Penn pulled 13 rebounds and blocked eight shots.
McNeese State held a 39-34 halftime lead and then fought back a late Texas State challenge.
The Bobcats (11-12, 4-6) had the game’s leading scorer in Brent Benson, who sank 28 points. Brent Holder added 12 points and Jonathan Sloan pulled down 10 rebounds for Texas State.
After leading by five points at the end of the first half, McNeese pushed it to nine midway in the second half but couldn’t get its lead into double figures. With only 1:45 left in the game, Texas State cut the lead to 74-72 on a layup by Brandon Bush. The Cowboys then scored the next six points, all on free throws, for an 80-72 edge and put the game away.
