Pounds 18 points leads Colgate to 76-75 win over Lafayette
EASTON, Pa. (AP)—Tim Pounds scored 18 points, including a game-winning free throw with 20 seconds left, as Colgate beat Lafayette 76-75 on Wednesday.
Kendall Chones had 17 points, Kyle Roemer and Daniel Waddy each added 12 points for Colgate (12-12, 4-6 Patriot League) while Mike Venezia scored 10.
Matt Betley had 15 points, Michael Gruner 13 and Everest Schmidt added 12 for Lafayette (14-10, 5-4).
Colgate led 36-32 at the half, scored nine points to start the second half to grab a 43-36 lead. Less than a minute later, Roemer’s two free throws and a shot by Venezia tied the score 43-43. An 8-0 run gave the Raiders a 53-47 advantage midway through the period.
Pounds’ free throw gave Colgate a 76-73 lead, but a foul set Betley to the line for three attempts with less than a second left. He made the first two but missed the third.
