Janning’s 19 points lead Northeastern to 62-53 win over Hofstra
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Matt Janning scored 19 points to lead Northeastern to a 62-53 victory over Hofstra on Wednesday night.
Chasson Allen and Eugene Spates each added 11 points for the Huskies (12-12, 8-6 Colonial Athletic Association), while Manny Adako added 10.
Freshman Charles Jenkins had 14 points for the Pride (8-16, 5-9), while Antoine Agudio, the nation’s 12th-leading scorer with a 22.7 average, was held to 13 and Darren Townes added 12.
Janning had eight points as the Huskies opened a 19-10 lead. Hofstra closed within 23-22 but the Huskies went 10-4 the rest of the half for a seven-point halftime lead.
Adako’s jumper with 14:05 left gave Northeastern its largest lead, 44-34. Hofstra went on an 11-2 run to get within 46-45 on a jumper by Greg Johnson with 9:05 left.
Jenkins’ layup got the Pride within 55-51 with 1:05 left but the Huskies made seven free throws the rest of the way, four by Allen.
